Currell double eases Oaks worries
DEVON ONE North Tawton...3 Plymstock Albion Oaks...17
TWO tries from Rhys Currell and one from Paul Ansell eased Oaks' relegation fears at seemingly already doomed Tawton.
Oaks had led 7-3 at the break thanks to a Currell try, improved by Tom West.
The visitors secured 10 more vital points in the second period thanks to number eight Currell, while Ansell crossed to complete a fine backs' move.
Tawton's only points came from the aptly-named Rob North, who in fact had put the hosts 3-0 up.
Oaks are now seven points ahead of third-bottom Salcombe, who went down 24-0 at New Cross.
Adam Nicholls, Oaks' head coach, said the conditions meant that his side had to play pragmatic rugby rather than the expansive version they favoured.
He said: "The weather was lousy: rainy, windy, and then we had some hail and the ground was heavy, which did not suit our kind of play.
"But we decided early on that things would have to change and so it became more of a game for our forwards, who did a grand job in winning ball for us."
Topsham...12 St Columba & Torpoint...10
VISITING St Columba and Torpoint went down narrowly at promotion-hunting Topsham but will feel they should have returned with more than a bonus point.
Saints will feel this was a victory that got away from them.
Both the visitors' tries came from Dave Hussey, as the Cornish side took a narrow lead into the break.
Topsham's points came from number eight Andy Brown's early try, and a later effort from Dave Shepherd, with Diego Hernandez's conversion winning the match.
DEVON TWO Tamar Saracens...3 Old Technicians...10
TECHS claimed a deserved double in the league over hosts Sarries at the latter's Parkway base.
The visitors edged into an early lead through Steve Wilkinson, only for Adam Coutts to trim Techs' advantage with a penalty.
The hosts should have put more points on the board with the boot and paid the price for their generosity as Phil Ingleson crossed for Techs' ultimately match-deciding try.
PLYMOUTH ARGAUM secured only their second win of the season – 33-3 – at Plympton Vics in a battle of the bottom two at Marsh Mills.
