Daley's double sees off Elburton
Plymouth Argyle...3 Elburton Villa...2
PLYMOUTH Argyle were made to fight all the way before finally beating their Carlsberg South West Peninsula visitors in last night's Westinsure Devon St Luke's Bowl quarter-final at Home Park.
Argyle were quick off the mark, taking a fourth minute lead, when Isaac Vassell's left-wing cross found Luke Daley free at the far post to head home via the thigh of Villa full-back Dan Murdoch.
The Pilgrims dominated the early stages with Daley, Robbie Williams and Ladje Soukouna all going close before Villa clawed their way back into the tie.
Jack Alexander's superb right-wing cross found Levi Landricombe sending in a 12 yard volley that Christian Walton did well to turn over his bar.
Michael Landricombe then put a great chance wide at the far post before Justin Crowley met another fine Alexander cross only to head over the bar.
The game exploded into life early in the second half with four goals coming in a manic six minute spell, starting with Argyle notching their second of the game with Vassell providing a clever angled finish from 12 yards.
Villa replied immediately, from the restart, with Justin Crowley crashing the ball home, via the inside of the post, from 18 yards before Daley restored Argyle's two goal advantage with a low drive from the edge of the area.
The visitors refused to lie down, with Tony Biddle crashing the ball home from six yards amidst a furious goalmouth scramble to make it 3-2.
Villa came within a whisker of forcing penalties when Levi Landricombe's fierce last minute free-kick was superbly turned around the far post by the flying Christian Walton.
Argyle will now face Tiverton Town for a place in the final.
