Davis Wood Hockey League: University of Plymouth win promotion to the Championship
UNIVERSITY of Plymouth have won promotion to the Davis Wood Hockey League Championship.
The Championship is the men's regional West of England & South Wales Hockey League second tier and puts the city students within touching distance of the Premiership top flight.
With Isca A already confirmed as Conference South champions the race for runners-up spot went down to the wire with the city students clinching second place following a 6-3 win at University of Exeter D.
Plymouth left it late for their victory roll with four goals without reply in the final nine minutes after trailing 3-2. Ben Tancock (3), Ben Copeland, Matthew Jakubiec and Jon Pearson scored.

The Plymouth students' win was enough to put five points between them and PGSOB, who lost 3-2 at ECV Hornets A.
Fifth-placed Plymouth Marjon A ended the season on a winning note by beating Isca A 5-4 at UCP Marjon thanks to goals by Ethan Davies (2), James Bell, Scott Saunders and John Whitfield.
Plymouth Marjon cemented a top four Premiership finish by edging out ECV Hornets 2-1, who finished second bottom of the top flight for a second successive season.
Josh Mailing and match winner Matt Bell scored second half goals for Plymouth, who trailed at half-time.
Promoted OPMs sealed the Southern 1 title despite a 2-0 loss at third-placed Truro A. Runners-up East Devon also lost, 6-3 at Penzance.
Eighth-placed PGSOB A's home game against sixth-placed Bude was abandoned during the first half due to a hailstorm. PGs led 1-0 at the time.
Plymouth Marjon B finished bottom of the table despite a last-day 4-4 home draw with ninth placed Duchy, while second-from-bottom Tavistock drew 3-3 at home to seventh-placed Dart.
Torbay topped Southern 2 and ended their title-winning term with a 9-1 win at basement side PGSOB B.
Okehampton finished runners-up despite their recent defeat by third-placed United Services Plymouth, who finished the season with a 3-2 home win over third-from-bottom Plymouth Marjon C.
Seventh-placed Caradon drew 1-1 at eighth-placed University of Plymouth A.
Plymouth Marjon Ladies first team have hastily rescheduled Saturday's abandoned match at home to West Clubs Women's Hockey League champions elect Exe for tonight at UCP Marjon (7.15pm). Saturday's game was abandoned after 42 minutes due to the heavy hail storm. Exe were leading 2-0 at the time.
Caradon Ladies and Plym Valley remain locked level on points going into the final South Division Saturday of the season and their top-of-the-table clash at Lux Park (12noon).
Second-placed Caradon beat Truro 6-2 with goals by Laura Tuxford (3), Olivia Childs, Clare Poad and Jayne Longrigg, while Plym Valley won 3-0 at relegated Exe 3.
Mannamead finish fifth following a 1-0 home win over Penzance and a winner for player of the match Charlie Shobrook.
