Dawn French surprises students at Plymouth school ceremony
COMEDY star Dawn French surprised students by turning up at a school prize-giving.
She returned to her home city to appear at Stoke Damerel Community College's celebration evening.

Dawn and brother Gary presented an award in honour of their late mother, charity worker Roma French.
Their appearance was a closely-guarded secret as an audience of 400 people filled the main hall on the night.

They were there to see more than 100 students honoured for their academic successes and other contributions they have made to school life.
Vicar of Dibley star Dawn and Gary presented an award given by the Drake Foundation in the name of their late mother Roma French.
The honour was given to three students in recognition of their achievements: Marie-Claire Nsana, Josh Westcott and Scott Hosking.
College Principal Carol Hannaford said: "We were extremely privileged to welcome Gary and Dawn to share in what is always a wonderful evening in school when we can celebrate the many achievements of our hard working and dedicated students.
"This year was no exception either and I know both Gary and Dawn, and all our other guests on the night, were impressed by the efforts of our prize winners. They, and all our students, make this wonderful school what it is today."
Roma French, who was Plymouth born and bred, died last year aged 77. She was well known through the city and elsewhere for her charity work, particularly in support of those with drug and alcohol problems.
The mother of two was the founder of Trevi House and co-founder of Hamoaze House in Plymouth.
Other guests at the event on Thursday February 7 were Tudor Evans, leader of Plymouth City Council, Carol Burgoyne, the Council's Director of People and Captain Arthur Ainslie, Chair of the Drake Foundation.
The Drake Foundation is a community charity which gives awards in the Plymouth area.
