A police spokesman said: "A forensic post mortem has been completed due to the nature of the scene.

"The initial findings of the post mortem would indicate that the death is no longer deemed as suspicious albeit the investigation is continuing jointly with HM Coroner."

Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police were called to a house in Randolph Close in Crownhill shortly after 7am on Sunday morning.

Scene of Crime Officers carried out a forensic examination of the property while uniformed officers carried out door to door inquiries.

The woman's body was later removed and taken to Derriford Hospital where the forensic post mortem was carried out by a Home Office pathologist.

As reported yesterday, nearby resident told The Herald the whole cul-de-sac was in a state of shock. One resident, who did not wish to be named, said: "To wake up to this on Mothers' Day is awful."

Paramedics from South Western Ambulance Service were called to the scene by police at 7.03am.

Detectives from Crownhill Local Investigation Team said they would continue with their inquiries in preparation of a file for the coroner, ahead of a full inquest.
