Decision time on Argyle loan duo

PLYMOUTH Argyle are expected to try to extend the loan spells of Guy Madjo and Alex MacDonald.

The attacking pair, borrowed from Aldershot Town and Burnley respectively, have been first team regulars over recent weeks.

Their one-month loans both end after the League Two game against AFC Wimbledon at Home Park on Saturday.

Argyle manager Carl Fletcher would not comment on whether he wanted to retain their services.

But it would be a major surprise were Madjo and MacDonald not to stay with the Pilgrims for at least another month.

The duo combined for Argyle's equalising goal in their 1-1 draw away to Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday.

MacDonald's inviting cross was finished off by Madjo in the 50th minute for his first goal in six games since signing from Aldershot.

Madjo was substituted later in the second half, but Fletcher had high praise for him.

"I was pleased with the goal we got," said Fletcher. "It was what we spoke about at half-time, to get it wide and let Macca create something.

"It was a great ball in and a good header/shoulder from Guy to stick it in the corner.

"He was up against two massive centre-halves and was getting kicked about, and had elbows in his head and all that kind of thing.

"I was pleased for him because he has come in and settled in well. He worked hard for the goal."

MacDonald prefers playing as an out-and-out striker but has been used on the right of midfield by Fletcher.

He was short of match practice at the start of his loan spell but is now much sharper.

Fletcher said: "Alex is one of those who can play anywhere. The pleasing thing for us on Tuesday was he was creating when we get him the ball.

"But then we scored the goal and we never gave him the ball again. That was disappointing.

"He works hard and that's all you ask from your players. We tell them not to let anyone beat them for workrate and then their quality will come through."

Wycombe had taken the lead in the 12th minute when striker Matt McClure headed home a cross from Wycombe's caretaker manager Gareth Ainsworth.

Fletcher said: "Up until then the game hadn't really settled down. It was disappointing to concede, but I was pleased with the way we responded.

"We settled down and actually passed the ball around a bit, which was nice, and created some chances we could have scored from."

Five minutes of stoppage time were added on by referee Gavin Ward at the end of the game and both teams could have grabbed a winning goal.

First, Argyle goalkeeper Jake Cole made a superb save to tip away a fierce shot from Wycombe midfielder Joel Grant.

Fletcher said: "It must have been great for the fans because there was an ebb and flow to the game, but not great for us managers.

"It was a great save from Coley. It was a real strong arm to get it over the bar."

Argyle then almost snatched maximum points when midfielder Conor Hourihane crashed a 25-yard shot against the crossbar.

Fletcher said: "It was a super strike from Conor. We were right behind it and it could have gone in.

"It was just a bit too high for Chads (striker Nick Chadwick) following in. It was one of those games – we could have won it, but we could have lost it as well.

"It's one defeat in seven and we will try to push on and look forward to Saturday."

Argyle have won two and drawn four of their last seven league games since losing 2-1 away to Oxford United on August 25.

That has seen them climb from 23rd to 18th position in the League Two table.

Fletcher said: "It's very hard to suddenly start winning every game. You have got to build momentum and we are getting that now."

Midfielder Onismor Bhasera and striker Warren Feeney both had injuries when they were substituted against Wycombe.

Fletcher said: "Baz had a big cut on his cheek and Feeno was feeling his groin so we took him off."
