Deer shot by firearms officers after being hit by vehicle in Plymouth
A deer had to be put down after being involved in a collision with a vehicle in Plymouth today, say police.
A walker spotted a deer lying in distress in Plymbridge Road next the the Fine Tubes building.

The police were called at 7.20am and a vet was asked to attend.
Unfortunately the deer was too badly injured to be saved and armed firearms officers dispatched the deer.

Plymouth City Council are responsible for disposal of the body.
Police say drivers are not required by law to stop at the scene of a collision involving a deer.
Plymouth police wildlife crime officer Ryan Canning said: "Plymbridge Road is an area that attracts lots of deer and this time of the year is particularly bad as the animals move around most at dusk and dawn which at this time of year, coincides with rush hour.
"Sadly the animal had to be despatched to prevent further suffering."

“Well done to the person who called for that animal too be put out of its misery, people need to take more care when they are driving and be responsible for their mistakes. We get deer wandering up by the Harvester and the culdesacs late at night and sometimes they get spooked and run in the road but you just have to be careful. Shame on the person who drove off and left it to suffer.”

“I used to work in Plymbridge Road and early in the morning it was fairly common to see up to 12 Deer walking down the road,still see groups of them around Wrigley's roundabout late at night.
That road is often more like a race track with shift workers flying down there at stupid speeds late at night or early in the morning.”

“There might not be any legal requirement to stop after a collision with a deer but surely anyone with an ounce of humanity would at least call for help to ensure the deer didn't suffer more than it had to? Shame on whoever left it there to die in agony.”
