Delight at funds raised for new air ambulance
DEVON Air Ambulance has celebrated the finale of a massive charity drive which will fund a new helicopter, writes Diana Prince, Health Reporter.
The BBC Radio Devon Air Ambulance Appeal raised more than £725,000 over two years.
Charity staff and volunteers, BBC Radio Devon presenters and employees, fundraisers and donors attended a day of celebration at the charity's air base.
Heléna Holt, Devon Air Ambulance Trust (DAAT) chief executive, said: "We are absolutely delighted that the final sum raised is over £725,000.
"It's an amazing achievement and one we are extremely proud of. We are humbled and overwhelmed at the support received."
She said that because of the appeal, Devon will be taking delivery of a second owned helicopter in August 2013.
She added: "There are many advantages to owning over leasing – including cost savings of £12,000 a month per aircraft.
"These savings mean that every single penny goes just that bit further and enables us to look at additional development of the service. This will include looking at flying longer hours and effectively means our patients benefit from even better care."
