AS A taxpaying citizen, I was delighted to read that Cllr Patricia Nicholson had donated £1,750 to Gables Farm.

I don't understand the fuss, as no rules have been broken, and in your words "...councillors each get £3,500... to spend as they see fit". It makes a refreshing change to see taxpayers money go to a worthy local cause and not some obscure scheme no one has heard of.

Although the money was not spent in the Peverell area, it has gone to a cause which addresses the problem of stray and unwanted animals and this is a problem affecting all areas of the city. With Christmas coming up, this situation is likely to get worse.

I do not feel Cllr Nicholson has "indulged her personal passion" and in the long run donations like this will benefit this city as a whole, a lot more than a few more park benches or railings.

“BettyD is right,it is an allocation given to spend in the area she represents.
Had she gained permission from them then fair enough but she didn't,therefore depriving them of funds which could have been earmarked for something they would have wanted or needed.
If the majority of people in Plymouth prefer the allowance, given to each Councillor every year,is spent to benefit the whole of Plymouth then PCC should withold it and give it directly to either Gables Farm or any charity that serves the whole area.
She treated this allowance as her own money,it isn't and had she not been a Councillor for Peverell she would not have it to give away.”

“But it wasn't her OWN money to donate was it, it was tax payers money, I can think of more worthy causes she could have donated to”

“I agree Karen. Gables is a wonderful cause and their staff and volunteers work hard for the care of the animals. Why shouldn't Cllr Nicholson choose how she can donate?”

“Looks like your blatantly skewed reporting of this non-issue has turned around and bit you, Editor Boy.”
