Derriford Hospital car park building is set to begin
WORK to build a new multistorey car park for patients and visitors at Derriford Hospital will begin in two weeks, writes Sophie Taylor.
Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs Derriford, yesterday announced that work to create the car park of more than 600 spaces will begin on Monday, January 28.

The trust said it will be working in partnership with the developers to maintain services for staff, patients and members of the public, whilst keeping disruption to a minimum.
Nick Thomas, director of planning and site services, said: “Car parking is a fundamental part of the patient and public’s care pathway. It provides the first impression of Derriford Hospital and can often be the first experience of the care they will receive on the NHS.

“In order to achieve this there will be some necessary changes required to the current parking arrangements for staff, patients and the public while the work is completed.”
The multistorey car park will create a secure car park, with better lighting and improve the parking experience for patients and visitors, the trust said.
While the hospital will remain open and fully operational throughout construction, car park E will be closed for building work.
New pedestrian and traffic routes as well as temporary parking options will be implemented throughout the construction of the new multistorey car park.
Vinci will manage the new multistorey car park along with the other car parks at Derriford Hospital and the car parking tariff will be the same across the whole site, the trust said.

“Who made the decision to start work the same week the eye infirmary moves to derriford??
with all the extra spaces needed for staff and patients they are turning part of the carpark into a building site! No common sense as usual”
