'Desperate' flasher exposed himself twice and performed indecent act
A MAN twice exposed himself to women while performing an indecent act, a court heard.
Keith Daly, 48, committed the offences after falling into a "pit of despair", having lost his job, his wife and his house, Plymouth magistrates were told.
Daly, of Walnut Gardens, Plympton, admitted intentionally exposing himself so that others would be caused alarm or distress on May 18 and May 27.
Claire Tresidder, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said a woman looked out of her window to see Daly standing in the street wearing a dressing gown on May 27.

Mrs Tresidder said she looked again a few minutes later and saw him performing an indecent act. A few minutes later she saw him again standing closer to her house. She waved her phone to show she was calling the police.
In the incident on May 18, two women driving to a friend's house saw him staring at them from his window and performing an indecent act.
Julian Jefferson, for Daly, said: "Up until the last few years he has led a hard-working, blameless life. Then about three years ago, his whole world fell apart. He descended into a pit of depression." He added he had been prescribed pills by his doctor but needed counselling. Mr Jefferson said he also occasionally dabbled with drugs. Magistrates released him on bail to return to court on October 23.

“Hang on a minute, the second time he was in his own home when two women looked in at him!!! It comes to something when you can't even knock one out in your own home without a) being stared at by a pair of perverts and b) getting arrested for it!!!”

“"A MAN twice exposed himself to women while performing an indecent act"...
And yet people like One Direction and Justin Bieber get away with this every day.”

“I guess I just see more nuances than simply labeling the man a 'sex-offender'. He didn't rape or molest anyone. He hasn't even touched anyone. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want indecent exposure in my neighborhood, but I still think there's a long way from what he did to something like actual sexual assault, and aside from what he did I can't help but being a little sympathetic to the situation of a man who has lost everything.
Also, I seriously doubt that anyone is scarred for life from seeing a man in a dress doing something indecent. It's not exactly pleasant, but if that's enough to scar you for life, then I would argue that witnessing such an event would be the least of your problems.
Finally, we should always be careful when we label people as deviant. It's not too many years ago we would label homosexuals as deviants, and even prosecute them as criminals. Obviously there's a difference between what you do in the privacy of your own home, and when you take it to the public domain, but my point is that with some counselling this guy might be able to keep it in his own bedroom.”

“To lock him up and 'throw away the key' is giving up on humanity and all its foibles. This guy needs, and deserves, help. He is part of what we all are.”

“I agree that people can recover from psychological problems, however, I don't agree that his act was minor, indecent exposure can have a traumatic effect on some people, maybe for life. He should now be treated as a sexual deviant, and I would argue that there is any treatment that can "cure" them. If all depressed men did what he did, we wouldn't be able to go out, or look out of the window. I'm sorry, but I don't see how you can be on the side of a sex offender.”

“@Trudie2010: You'd be surprised at how many people are able to recover from psychological problems and go on to lead happy and productive lives. You should also remember that you cannot punish someone for something they might do in the future.
Also, I don't understand the need to lock the guy up. He didn't hurt anybody, at worst he offended some delicate sensibilities ... and the greatest harm to come from this whole incident is to himself, as his name will now forever be tied to this one day of his life. That and some court mandated counselling should really be enough.”

“Just lock him up with the rest of them, they never "get better".”

“It's very likely that he had these urges all along, but it was not until his life started unraveling that he became capable of acting on them. It is not uncommon for people who are severely depressed to do things that are harmful to themselves, be it physical harm such as cutting or social harm such as indecently exposing himself in the streets. My guess is that once he lost his job and his wife he might even have felt that he "deserved" the consequences that would arise from living out his urges.
Either way, it's a psychological problem and he needs counselling with a therapist who specializes in sexual compulsions. I hope he gets help.”
