WORLD wide interest in city speedway club Plymouth Devils has nearly tripled in 12 months, new figures reveal.

Hits on the club's website soared by more than two million between 2010 and last year.

Records were kept from April 3 – the day the site went live – to December 31, 2010, which revealed 1,232,048 hits.

But from January 1 to December 31 last year, that figure increased to 3,563,184.

Interest in the city club, who moved up from the National to the Premier League last season, came from fans all over the world.

Supporters from 52 different countries had a look at the Devils website.

Interest ranged, in alphabetical order, from the Caribbean island of Aruba to Turkey.

The number of hits made the Devils site one of the most successful speedway ones in the UK.

Hits peaked in July last year, which saw a total of 435,708, or 14,055 per day.

Club chairman and Devils promoter Mike Bowden said the website could be a useful tool for city firms who wanted to promote their business around the globe.

He said: "We (the club) are looking for a main team sponsor.

"We already have one sponsor, Stitches Tailoring, who will be our main sponsor if nobody else comes forward.

"It's nothing to get desperate about, but it would help to have someone else, as their financial backing is used to pay off bills before the season even starts.

"Although the season is over, you still have to pay bills such as riders' licences and the track licence.

"I don't really look at websites, but it could be really useful for Plymouth firms who want some cheap advertising.

"We're looking for something in the region of £2,500, which isn't a huge amount for a firm.

"For them, they get their names on the riders' jackets and the front of the meeting programme. They also get the name of their firm spread around the world."

ANYONE interested in sponsoring the Devils should contact commercial manager Brian Cave on 07532 180 731.
