David Cameron is "running out of time" to rid the Conservatives of their "posh, male and white" image, a Westcountry Conservative MP has warned.

Sarah Wollaston, MP for Totnes, called on the Prime Minister reshuffle his "inner circle" before May's local elections.

In a series of tweets, the backbencher insisted she was loyal to the leader but suggested his closest allies were yes men.

She wrote: "Inner circle still look far too posh, male & white & Cameron is running out of time to fix it.

"I consider myself a Cameron loyalist; he is the best person for the job but should listen to critical friends.

"I am a Cameron loyalist but he needs to change his inner circle which just seems to be telling him what he wants to hear."

Writing for Telegraph.co.uk, she continued: "If David Cameron wants to occupy the 'common ground' he needs to look at how his inner circle of ministers and advisers look from the outside."

Reports have suggested that Theresa May, the Home Secretary, was positioning herself to succeed Mr Cameron after a series of poor opinion polls and election results.

“I refer to my previous comment:
"Well said conundrum I'm old enough to remember the "milk snatcher" the decimation of national industry, the deconstruction of social housing, education and the slow decay of moral consciousness.

Who was it who said you get the government you deserve?

But then what would this illusion of democracy be without a little mis-direction. Almost makes you feel sorry for starbucks!

But I digress the irony or rather insolence of anyone who would describe themselves as a Cameron loyalist would expect for one moment to be believed that she stands for equality!"”

“Britain has had a succession of useless Tory/Labour governments for many years, yet people keep voting the fools back into office out of a misguided sense of 'loyalty'.

“Thanks cassiebiker, I'd not read the comments. More thought provoking stuff in there than the supposed article.

The Tories seem to be messing around with side issues rather than the important ones and the idea that anybody that opposes gay marriage is homophobic is as stupid and insulting as the idea that anybody that dared to mention immigration must be a racist. People and opinions can't be categorised as either black or white with no middle ground or shades of grey.

The Tories seem to have forgotten or ditched some of things they were on about before the election and I don't think that's due to the coalition. I think I've been missold by both coalition parties in that regard.

The issue of ethnicity reminds me of what Emma Thompson said about Exeter being too white when there for the graduation of her adopted child which in my mind was somewhat negated by that well to do white girl from London getting caught up in the 2011 summer of looting. When I was in Exeter last year I think I saw a drugs deal going down on a main thoroughfare, both were white and it was so obvious I wondered if it was some kind of candid camera type set up.

What's the UKIP stance on New Labour's beloved climate of fear and the Snooper's Charter?

Having all men on a DNA database may not be a silver bullet when we have foreign nationals committing sex crimes and murders here? And the failures of the police here to not provide DNA or use updated DNA methods when advised to by the Forensics Science Service, rather like the July 7 bombings, show that when the authorities have the information they can't or won't use it so what are they going to do with even more of it?

Am i insulted that the authorities may think I am more likely than a foreign national to commit a sex crime? Is that treating me like a second class citizen? The default position is we're all guilty until proven innocent? It's the fault of speed cameras and CSI?

Bikerlad shouldn't be allowed to vote?

That's a bit much. That's a bit like the Irish government telling their nationals, their citizens to vote twice on the Lisbon Treaty as they voted wrong the first time.

His views are any worse than what Gordon Brown uttered when he didn't realise his microphone was still on?

English was my top subject at school and I was deemed not good enough to get into the Maths set. Perhaps bikerlad has other skills that outshine his English?

I spelt my own name wrong earlier. I pressed an adjacent key.”

“Having read the bigoted rubbish from Ukipper "bikerlad707" below, if his comments represent the average educational standard of the Bus Pass Party's followers, Heaven help us.

Why on Earth should we take notice of anything about which "bikerlad707" decides to rant? This apparent ignoramus clearly can't spell, can't punctuate, can't capitalise correctly and can't construct a simple sentence.

But somehow he has the vote!”

That's the original article they refer to above...complete with comments from around the country. She's hardly gonna call him a dipstick if the Morning News did a different interview although she might if she read the comments in the Torygraph!”

    “Thank you cassiebiker.

Is that it? Surely they'll be more an article in the WMN than that?

Not a great photo of Cameron. He looks like he's trying to squeeze one out and a bit like Bill Hicks.

    Thanks conundrum. Thought provoking.”

“Oh dear....Dr Wollaston is insulting our intelligence here with a classic and rather feeble example of that old technique: misdirection.

    Here's how it works:

Tories like Dr Wollaston want to 'shrink the state ' ( as she recently said in a newspaper article ) Basically that means privatizing as much as possible. This transfers money and assets previously owned by all of us to a very small group of people. These people then make large political donations and give MPs lucrative directorships. The very rich get richer.....and they get tax cuts too.

The Tories started this under Margaret Thatcher, and they also deregulated the financial sector....and that worked out well didn't it?.....Oh, no, wait a minute : the bank bail-out cost us £20,000 for every single inhabitant of the UK, but it's given them an ideal excuse for 'austerity' ....and more privatization out-sourcing and deregulation..... what could possibly go wrong eh?

So, the trick is to direct, or rather misdirect, attention and the blame somewhere else. They've tried the sick, disabled, low-paid and the unemployed. ( 'It's the huge welfare bill. ) The NHS (It's too expensive )....The public sector ( wages are too high )....and so on.

Now, when an enthusiastic supporter of all this such as Dr. Wollaston, apparently unaware of the irony, tells you that the problem is because the Prime Minister ( Posh, white and male ) is surrounded by too many posh, white males, then that horrible grating noise is the sound of the barrel being well and truly scraped and you know the excuses have run out.

The truth is that even if the cabinet was a peniless, multi-racial mix of male, female, and trans-gender politicians with the same political ideology, it wouldn't make the slightest difference. It's been tried, basically by each successive government for 30 years and it's failed.

And just in case you're gullible enough to think UKIP ( the foaming-at-the-mouth extreme right-wing of the Tory party,) would be better, remember what Einstein said: "Doing the same thing over and over and expecting to get different results is one definition of insanity."”

“vote UKIP? It's just the loony wing of the Tories anyway -if you don't want the Tories why on earth would you want their loony fringe? Do UKIP have any policies on anything but Europe? I can't think of a single thing Farange has said about the economy that he hasn't suggested linked to Europe. A one trick pony of a party and even the one trick is a poor one.”

“Why would he change, check out the MPs EXPENSES 2012: Cameron £119,149 UP 12%, Alexander £149,176 UP 16%, Osborne £111,735 UP 20%, Clegg £148,583 UP 34%) ALL IN IT THIS TOGETHER, I think not.”
