Devon scouts take up target shooting
In this Olympic year Devon Scouts are aiming high in the sport of Target Shooting. Following a tough county wide qualifying shoot and a head to head final between 16 young people aged between 11 and 16 held at Exeter Scout HQ in February, a new Devon County Scout team was picked.
The Team comprising of 4 scouts and 4 explorers from Mid Devon, East Devon and North Devon then went forward to compete in the National Scout Inter Counties Championship at Aldersley, West Midlands.
There were two disciplines both of which will feature in the Olympics in London, they were:

• Air Pistol 10 Meter (4 cards with 5 shots at each)
All members of the team shot above expectations and were placed 10th out of 15 teams after the rifle round.
They then managed to climb three places to finish in 7th overall. This was due to an incredible second round of air pistol shoot putting in a record Devon score of 1138 out of a possible 1600.
Special mention must go to Harvey Johnson of Axe Air Explorers - Beer and Chris Glover of 5th North Devon Scouts Bishops Tawton in their first ever competition being asked to join the National Scout Rifle Squad and to Pip Bale of 5th North Devon Scouts Bishops Tawton who was asked to join the Great Britain Junior Pistol Squad alongside Chris Glover.
The young people had a great time experiencing the competition environment and are looking forward to developing their shooting skills over the coming year.
