THE crew of HMS Portland will be ceremonially welcomed back into the fleet after a major refit and upgrade.

More than 200 family, friends and close affiliate organisations are expected to attend the ceremony at Devonport Naval Base on Thursday.

The event marks the ship's reintegration into the fleet after 12 months undergoing a weapon and sensors upgrade, carried out at Rosyth Royal Dockyard in Scotland.

A rededication ceremony is a traditional part of any Royal Navy ship's life after completing a period of refit and improvement.
