Diver's cycle for charity which helped him recover from 'the bends'
A DIVER is cycling from Bristol to Plymouth in aid of a charity which helped him recover from 'the bends'.
Dan Wooler was diving on holiday in the Indian Ocean when he suffered decompression illness which left him with limb paralysis. Taken to a local hyperbaric chamber for treatment, Plymouth-based charity Diving Diseases Research Centre was contacted for specialist advice. Dr Matt Waterman was on call and remained in contact with Dan, his wife and the local chamber for several days, providing support and specialist guidance.
Dan's condition improved and he finally recovered sufficiently to fly back to England. Dan began the ride yesterday with colleagues and friends. They were due to finish their journey today at the Tamar Science Park centre where they will present a cheque for £2,000.
