Don't speculate; spend on Argyle
ARGYLE, like most other clubs, is running close to the wind where money is concerned.
Staff have been laid off and the team is not performing, even though we have dropped a division. Our owners, instead of spending money on a squad, announced a £150million scheme to build cinemas, hotels and student flats etc. It seems to me they are more interested in building up their other businesses at our expense than they are at putting Argyle where they belong, in the Premier League.
I live in Plymouth and love my city — and I don't like what these people are doing to it or my club.
The council seems to be on their side and they both talk more about the World Cup in 2018 than they do about Plymouth Argyle in 2010. This building project won't help Argyle. All we will get is a bigger stadium where, instead of sitting down, we can all lie across four seats because there will be so much unused space.
The owners and the council should develop Argyle, not shops and hotels, and forget spending £150million on getting the 2018 World Cup. Spend it instead on what we need most — worthwhile, well-paid jobs and a football club we can really be proud of.
We can't afford the development, especially as it will probably mean the end of Argyle as a local team for local people.

“Have been watching the demise of our great football club very closely recently. Although i now live in New Plymouth (NZ), thanks to the internet i have been able to keep up with whats happening.
The board are in dream land and i cant agree with you more John.
They promised premiership football in 5 years last year, so now have 4 years remaining to turn it around. How do they think they will achieve that without letting the manager have money to spend on new players???
These business men have no interest in the football club. They do however have huge interest in the land the club sits on. The only way to get this land is to run the club into the ground. And from what i see and read, they are doing a very good job at.
I'm afraid to say that in 10 years time there will be no Plymouth Argyle football club, but there will be a new modern cinema complex and luxury appartments sitting there.
Don't say it will never happen! It happened at Wimbledon FC.
So come on you supporters, stand up at the next game and let the board hear you before its too late.”

“John Robinson,Plymouth (and johnno).Earlier today I was talking about this and unbelievably your letter echoes exactly what I had said. Any of the people I had been talking to would have thought I had written it. I am sure we are right.”

“How can the people of Plymouth not see through this scam , Argyle are a football club , but hand in hand with Plymouth City council they are turning into a property development company , and are hell bent on burying Central park underneath concrete .
It is time that some independent party looked into what is happening to this club and the city council
it all seems a bit underhanded to me , and to many brown envelops changing hands”

“This is the full version of the letter above that The Evening Herald has decided to edit!.

This building project of theirs wont help Argyle at all, All we will get is a bigger stadium where instead of sitting down we can all lie across four seats because there will be so much unused space, and whats worse the rent they charge us for Home Park will increase making it even more unaffordable. I bet the seat and season ticket prices will increase as well.
Its about time the owners and the council stopped screwing Plymouth and did what they are supposed to do ¿ Develop Argyle, not shops and hotels and forget spending 150 million on getting the 2018 world cup and spend it on what we need most ¿ worthwhile, well paid jobs and a football club we can really be proud of. We can¿t afford the development especially as it will probably mean the end of Argyle as a local team for local people.
I don¿t trust these men or their motives!.”
