Plymouth Argyle striker George Donnelly heads to Stockport on loan
ARGYLE striker George Donnelly has re-signed for Stockport County on a six-month loan.
The 22-year-old ended last season on loan to the Edgeley Park club.
Donnelly made 16 starts and three substitute appearances for Stockport, and scored four goals, as they were relegated from League One.
Despite his departure, Argyle manager Peter Reid still has plenty of attacking options in his squad. He has six other strikers available to him — Rory Fallon, Steve MacLean, Joe Mason, Rory Patterson and Bradley Wright-Phillips, as well as Liam Head.
Donnelly started Argyle's 1-0 defeat against AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands last Wednesday, and has played as a substitute in two other pre-season games.
Reid thought it was important Donnelly gained more experience of league football.
The striker has made only two substitute appearances for Argyle since signing from Lancashire non-league club Skelmersdale United in March 2009.
Reid said: "We are top heavy with strikers so we thought it was a good opportunity for George to play games.
He's delighted to go there and, hopefully, he can get a few games and a few goals for Stockport.
"The boy has great physique but just needs to play football matches to get his education in the game."
PETER REID will answer questions from Argyle supporters at a Meet the Manager Evening at Home Park on Thursday, August 5.
It will be a chance for the Green Army to get to know the Pilgrims' new boss — two days before the League One campaign kicks-off.
The Meet the Manager Evening will take place at the Devonport End of Home Park and is free to attend. The gates open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start.
