Drivers being pulled over in Plymouth in multi-agency operation
P;ymouth drivers are being pulled over today in a multi-agency operation.
Plymouth people are leading the crackdown as part of Operation Juggler.
Checkpoints are being manned by police units and representatives from Trading Standards, VOSA, HM Customs and Excise and Plymouth City Council waste licensing officers.
The teams are targeting everything from illegal use of red diesel and unlicensed waste carriers to rogue traders, metal thieves and untaxed drivers.

“Oh yeah a copper checking for a scratch?! looks like he is checking tyres to me! these depts/police cannot win if they do there jobs or if they ignore vehicles people would moan... You really only need to look at some of the comments on the Herald website and you know why Plymouth is so far behind other cities and towns in the SW!”

“Wrong road, it should have been the next one over - Millbay Rd, if you want to see some real speeding.”

“Even the photo of the copper looking so intently for a scratch on the immaculate taxi shows how ridiculous it is .”

“There also happened to be a lot of guys with grey beards who looked like Dr Harlold Shipman but wearing hi vis jackets and carrying clipboards and looking very important with themselves . The thought of this also made me very angry at being stopped by these wiedo jobsworths . I dont want my life to be run by the likes of them.”

“I got stopped by the same one who stopped me 4 weeks ago for "a check". He knew my name and was friendly to the point of being sickly . Brand new vehicle taxed and insured and would come up on a computer from some bridge camera if it wasnt . Still stopped again going about my lawfull way.
They were not just pulling in dodgy looking vehicles ... they were stopping everyone . That is not right in a free society .
Random searches and checks on the general public are wrong . We are not supposed to be living in a virtual prison. Last week there were drug sniffer dogs checking all and sundry at the train station . This constant surveillance and checks and searches against ordinary members of the public without a good reason is totaly wrong . If someone is speeding or driving erraticly ... stop them. If someones vehicle seems to be deficient ... stop them . But this was just random checks done by a bunch that regard everyone as a potential law breaker . Commonsense has gone out of the window . But at least they are looking as if they are doing something !”

“Marts cot, you haven't a clue, how thick are you and it's Sergeant, that's how you spell it. Why don't you join, jtme1 and polgle63a and go to somewhere like South Africa or Turkey and complain there about a Police state
I'll pay for the taxi to the airport
Bye then, you won't be missed”

“the best thing to do in this case is have a fee schedule to hand stating you are willing to cooperate as long as they are going to pay for your loss of earnings and time ect. also we are policed by consent in this country and you are not obliged to answer any of there questions unless they can prove you have broken the law. all you need are 3 simple questions, 1.am i obliged to answer your questions officer? the answer is no, 2. am i under arrest? the answer is no,
3.in that case am i free to go? he can only answer yes, if the police officer says no then request that you speak to a Sargent because you cannot be detained unless you have been arrested. a sargent will know you are on the ball with regards to your rights and 9 times out of 10 will let you go.
they rely on people not knowing there rights so they can generate income out of you and get there targets met. this is the only reason these road blocks are put in place otherwise they would be targeting real criminals but then real criminals like muggers rapists and burglars cant be slapped with a fine and sent on there way can they so its far easier to target you the driver instead. police officers are just corporate revenue generators. peace officers are there to look after you and protect the public simple as that.”

“All these people who believe we live in a police state ? Get a grip or move to a more un civilised country. I think you would soon stop complaining if you lived else where!
Facts are technology is one thing but it can't stop a human being breaking the law.
I for one can feel free to go about my business with out the fear of being stopped because I have something to hide. Those whoever feel the need to break the law then hope you get stopped , but unfortunately the penalty is so feeble you will probably continue to break the law !”
