A TEENAGE drug addict whose haul from two cars included a man's wedding ring has been given a court order to tackle his habit.

Luke Evans, 18, was tracked down because he left a can of beer behind containing traces of his DNA.

Evans himself told police in an interview he was so intoxicated by drugs that he could not remember the offences.

Evans, of Ward Place in Efford, had earlier admitted burglary of a garage in Mayfair Crescent, Eggbuckland, on June 7. The haul was worth £386, including CDs and the car's CD player.

He also admitted theft of items worth £340 from a car in Grenville Road, St Judes, between June 17-21. The haul was worth £340, again including CDs but also a wedding ring.

Roger Page, for Evans, said his memory had been 'shot to pieces' by a combination of Valium and methadone. He was now motivated to rid himself of his habit.

Magistrates gave him a 12-month community order and a six-month drug rehabilitation requirement, which will see him treated and tested for his addiction.

He was also ordered to pay £125 in compensation both car owners.
