Drug supply charge

A MAN accused of plotting to deal cocaine and heroin has appeared before a judge.

Lee Thomas Bates, aged 30, was brought in custody to Plymouth Crown Court to answer a charge of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.

Bates, from Landford Place, Liverpool, was arrested last May as part of an investigation into the supply of heroin and cocaine into Plymouth, called Operation Rio.

Thirteen other men and women from the South West and Liverpool have been arrested and charged with similar offences.

Judge Graham Cottle remanded him in custody to appear at the court again on March 4.

THE next meeting of the Plymouth Railway Circle will take place on Monday, March 4.

All meetings are held at St Edward's Church Hall, in Home Park Avenue, Peverell, commencing at 7.30pm.

Christian Woolmar, a well-known author and commentator on the national railway scene, will next week offer a personal insight of his experiences in UK rail.

His talk, entitled '15 Years of Rail Privatisation' costs £1 for members or £2 for visitors.

AN EXHIBITION of photography is to be given by Maureen Douglas-Green, in aid of Jeremiah's Journey.

Maureen, member of The Plymouth and District Photography Club, is a local photographer who specialises in botanical, nude and macro photography. She has had many exhibitions at Harbour House in Kingsbridge and The Garden House in Yelverton.

Her latest event takes place on Sunday, March 17, 2pm to 6pm, at Derriford Health and Leisure Centre, Derriford Hospital.

All are invited to help raise funds for the Plymouth-based charity which offers support and information to children and their families after a bereavement.

PARKINSON'S UK are holding a spring gala event at Debenhams in the city centre.

The event, this Monday evening from 6.30pm, will raise cash for the lifeline charity.

A raffle and gala on the evening will boost the charity's coffers.

Customers will receive 10 per cent off fragrance and cosmetics and indulge in a refreshment and beauty demonstration.

Tickets are £5, which is redeemable against a purchase, from the Debenhams cosmetics hall.
