A DRUNKEN woman kicked and tried to bite a police constable, a court heard.

Plymouth magistrates were told that 21-year-old Teri Eddy lashed out in a police cell after she was arrested for being disorderly in the street.

Single mum Eddy, of Herbert Street, Keyham, admitted assaulting a constable in the execution of her duty and being drunk and disorderly on August 8.

Gareth Warden, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said witnesses saw Eddy arguing with a man in North Hill at about 2.40am.

He added that police were called and arrested Eddy for being drunk and disorderly.

Mr Warden said she was taken to a cell but became aggressive and refused to be searched.

"She attempted to bite the officer and kicked her in the back of the leg," he said.

Mr Warden said in interview Eddy later apologised to the officer, saying she was very upset and drunk at the time.

She said she did not remember trying to bite the woman.

Eddy, representing herself in court, apologised again but said she did not have a drink problem.

She said: "I have never been in trouble like this before."

Magistrates gave her a 12-month community order with 50 hours of unpaid work.

She was also ordered to pay £50 in compensation to the officer.
