ELECTION rules
THE rules about who can stand as a Police and Crime Commissioner candidate are similar to those for MPs.
People who are subject of a bankruptcy restrictions order in England or Wales or a debt relief restrictions order are disqualified.
No one with a conviction for a criminal offence which can carry a prison sentence may stand, even if the offence happened when they were a juvenile.
Details of County Court Judgements remain on the register for six years from the date of judgment, unless the judgment is set aside, or the amount is paid in full within one month.

“Sorry to disappoint you Nevman but if you don't vote they will just dismiss you as someone who is lazy and doesn't care. If turnout is low they will probably just spend lots of our money advertising the election next time around.”

“Sorry to disappoint you, Lucy and Foldart, but spoilt ballot papers will still count towards the overall turnout, and the politicians are likely to dismiss them by claiming that voters were too dim to understand the two-preference voting system.
If you want to show the government your disapproval - don't vote. They'll have a job dismissing a historically low turnout if it's only around the 10% mark, and then it could become an election issue in a couple of years' time.”

“I didn't think a licensee could be directly involved with the Police?
You would imagine that many unsuitable licenses could be "pushed" through as a favor.”

“Because his CCjs are a civil not criminal matter, Betty. Although proved in court to be wanting, he is not deemed to be a criminal. Strange, but true.”

“I agree with Lucy. Turn and spoil the ballot paper. It shows that the poor vote will be a protest against the position and not voter apathy.”

“I will vote on Thursday but I won't put my cross against any candidate's name. I will just write "None of the above" across the ballot paper. They all just want the post for the power and the money and none of them are fit for purpose. If you don't bother to vote you are wasting the only thing you get for nothing but if you do as I'll be doing then you make your opinions known.”
