This is Plymouth

IF I WEREN'T TALKING TO YOU, RIGHT NOW I'D BE...

Working with other officers from around the country at our National Union of Students training session in London before enjoying (perhaps doubtfully) the karaoke skills of the NUS National Committee.

OTHER THAN MY JOB, I'M GOOD AT...

The tenor sax in my jazz band, although I sometimes prefer directing the band as I get to stand right at the front of the stage and be the centre of attention!

BUT I'M BAD AT...

Answering witty questions from journalists.

I STUDIED HUMAN BIOSCIENCES BECAUSE...

It really answers those 'But how does it actually happen?' questions. Human biosciences is also one of those academic areas where you can direct your own interests. Some of my friends followed a nutrition/sports route, while I found immunology and molecular/cell biology the most fascinating. It's amazing to think how much goes on inside our bodies to keep us alive in such a tiny, intricate way.

AFTER MY YEAR OUT AS PRESIDENT I PLAN TO...

Continue along the same lines, working in either a political/ campaigning area or within the third (voluntary) sector. Since being involved 'politically' I've really become motivated to try and champion equality, civil rights and social justice, but traditional politics is quite scary because so much relies on elections and political parties, which is out of the general control of oneself. If you lose an election, or if your party falls out of favour, you can lose the right to install real progressive change for the people of this country – which is such a shame. But much good can be done outside of the Houses of Parliament, of course.

STUDENTS SHOULD CHOOSE PLYMOUTH UNIVERSITY BECAUSE...

It's one the most friendly, inclusive universities, located in a beautiful, accessible environment with real excellence in teaching, learning and enterprise. Besides that, it has a great union which provides amazing extra-curricular activities!

THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING A STUDENT IS...

The flexibility and the social life.

ON TV I NEVER MISS...

Top Gear and Question Time.

PEOPLE SHOULD TAKE MORE NOTICE OF...

Climate change and their behavioural impacts on the environment and others.

IF I WERE A POLITICIAN, I'D...

Try to work inclusively, really representing the people who would have elected me, putting petty politics aside. I really do believe that politics is for good and about the right reasons, yet politicians get a lot of flak, and sometimes rightly so.

MY IDEAL SUMMER DAY OUT IS...

Walking across Dartmoor with friends, stopping for a pub lunch and watching the sun set from atop a tor.

THE BEST THING ABOUT PLYMOUTH IS...

The local environment and everything being so close together.

BUT IF I COULD CHANGE ONE THING I'D...

Have a harmonious relationship between the student and resident community.
