Eddy ready to play with UB40
UB40 return to Plymouth Pavilions on Tuesday to present a polished and perfected performance honed by years of touring the world.
The band return as a seven-piece without Ali Campbell, who left the band last year due to "management difficulties".
With 54 UK hit singles to their name, including 17 Top tens choosing the set list could be tricky. But their three global No 1s, Red Red Wine, I Got You Babe and Falling In Love With You are almost guaranteed to be in there somewhere.
Support comes from the iconic Eddy Grant, who has spent the past 20 years deliberately avoiding performing live, but came back last year to play Nelson Mandela's 90th Birthday party and then provided one of the highlights of Glasto 2008.
Having first topped the charts back in the 60s as singer/songwriter of The Equals he scored huge hits as a solo artist with I Don't Wanna Dance, Electric Avenue and the politically poignant Gimme Hope Jo'anna in the '80s, but has spent much of his long career making music on his own terms and promoting that of others.
He told The Herald he was delighted to be linking up with UB40.
"We played together at the start of their career," said Eddy, "over in Ibiza and then they had a hit record with my song Baby Come Back, with Pato Banton. So it will be great to share a stage with them again."
