Eggbuckland hosts county table tennis championships

A SCHOOL has hosted the Devon Schools' Table Tennis Team Championships.

Eggbuckland Community College hosted the competition and the school is also home to the Woolwell Table Tennis Club.

The annual event saw 34 teams from 12 secondary schools and eight primary schools competed for glory in various age categories.

Graham Pearson, head of PE at Eggbuckland Community College, and secretary of the Devon Schools' Table Tennis Association, said: "Yet again, it's really good to see so many players from across the county representing their schools."

Secondary schools involved this year from Plymouth included All Saints Academy, Devonport High School for Boys, Eggbuckland Community College, Ivybridge Community College and Plymouth College.

Primary schools involved included St Andrew's Primary School and Yealmpstone Farm Primary School.

Okehampton College won the girls and boys under 11 match, as well as the boys under 16 match, and Devonport High School for Boys won the boys under 13 match.

Eggbuckland Community College won the girls under 13 match and Ilfracombe College won the boys under 19 match.

Jamie Courson, from Lipson Community College, said: "It's always a fantastic event, we've been coming for years. It's great to see the improvement students make throughout the year."

Eggbuckland Community College has recently undergone extensive refurbishment so the new flooring and lighting could add to the tense atmosphere as students battled to win their matches.

Eggbuckland Community College will be playing host to the Devon Individual Table Tennis Championships on February 13, 2013.
