AN 61-year-old man has been taken to hospital after his car collided with a police car attending another accident.

The first incident at 6.20pm last night (Sunday) saw a red Honda Civic hit a piece of steel cable on the A38 at the Parkway near St Budeaux.

Police attended the scene on the Plymouth-bound carriageway and found the driver to be safe and well.

But while the police officer was dealing with the incident, a white Nissan Micra hit his car.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police last night said the man was taken to Derriford Hospital by ambulance personnel as a precaution. His injuries are not life threatening but he was detained for treatment.

Fire crews also attended the scene as the Plymothian driver had to be cut from his vehicle.

Diversions were set up near to the former Blue Monkey pub.

As a matter of routine the IPCC have been informed as the incident involves a marked police vehicle.

Anyone with any information is urged to call the police on 08452 777 444 quoting the log number 884 of October 26.

“I came past the accident last night, one could see the police traffic cars and blue lights from nearly half a mile away. One trusts that this elderly driver will make a full recovery, enabling him to take a driving retest.”
