The driver of the Ford, a 75-year-old woman, was trapped in the car.

Two fire crews, one from Plympton and one from Crownhill, responded after a call from ambulance control.

The elderly driver was freed from the vehicle using hydraulic cutting equipment and she was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth by ambulance.

Police said her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The fire brigade left the scene at 4.45pm but the road remained closed to allow repair of the lamppost.
