End the squabbling
REFERENCE the recent letters regarding the incinerator and local councillors not listening, the fact is this. Local councillors and MPs are not interested in the voters who elected them, they only want to stay in power as long as possible, enjoying all the benefits of the gravy train and making themselves look good. One has only to pick up the newspaper to see their smug faces.
In my opinion, local councillors should not belong to any political party, but should be elected independently, this would avoid all the inter party squabbling, one party deliberately arguing because another has come up with an idea.

“I never said it was ideal, but what are the alternatives? Individual MPs would squabble even more and nothing would be achieved...”

“I agree Blogtodi, but the reality is, if you watch 5 minutes of live commons TV, they act like or worse than children in the playground. Booing and poopooing all the ideas put forward, even if they are clearly the best or only option available. Why is it that the majority of politicians are older men or woman, with money already and privately schooled. It's about time their wages were means tested in my opinion. And I would really like to know why, when it seems to me that running the country is a full time, 24/7 kind of job, they all have second, third or even fourth jobs? They haven't got time for that surely.”

“The only problem with that principle is they have all learned that by working 'collectively' - that is to say all members of all parties cooperating in this scam, they can ensure the majority of them get a good long taxpayer funded innings.
Even the concept of a 'career politician' should make us all shudder. How can anyone suggest they can possibly represent a constantly changing population effectively for the whole of their career?
What is the real attraction to politics? Answers on the back of a fiver please.
Ah, the true face of council business.”

“The whole point of opposition parties is to question everything the ruling party does. It's the basis of our government and is deliberately designed to raise questions and objections that have to be answered thus ensuring that decisions are exhaustively tested.”
