THE date for this year's Enterprise Week in Plymouth has been announced.

The five-day event, which is organised to champion business in the city as part of the National Enterprise Week, will take place during the week commencing November 17.

Elaine Budd, spokesperson for the week, said that Plymouth had 'gained a reputation nationally for embracing this initiative and as an example of best practice' – and she believes it will be the best yet.

She said that Plymouth ran the most amount of events and activities for its Enterprise Week in the South West last year – and has been 'case studied' by the national organisers, Make Your Mark, in this year's promotional material.

She said: "This year has seen Plymouth win the regional heat of the Enterprising Britain competition and, as a result of that success, has been invited to become a founding member of the national Enterprising Places network.

"We are now planning activities for this year and already an exciting programme is emerging.

"The INSPIRE Skills Festival is at Plymouth Albion on November 19 for 14 to 16-year-olds to gain an interactive experience of various sector activities to inform their future career choices, funded by the Learning and Skills Council, Plymouth City Council with support provided by Connexions.

"In addition, The Herald's Youth Awards will again put a spotlight on some of the talented young people locally to celebrate their achievements."

Elaine Budd said she wants to know of any activities or events that are taking place at businesses during the week in November.

She asked that anyone who plans to be part of the week should contact her on 07712 586060.

Activities during the week will include a PM-P Creative Careers Day, the city's Chamber of Commerce is organising a Get Connected event in the Drum Theatre and a Make Your Mark Challenge at both City College Plymouth and UCP Marjon.

Business Link will also put on a business advice evening and there will be speed networking, an 'enginuity challenge' and a 'Reverse Dragons' Den', as well as The Herald's Youth Awards.

The overall running of Enterprise Week is undertaken by the Enterprise Week Co-ordination Group made up of partners from organisations like the University of Plymouth, Tamar Education Business Partnership, Business Link Devon, Cornwall and Somerset and The Herald.

Elaine Budd said: "I believe this is going to be the best Enterprise Week yet!"
