Ex-head is now a consultant
FOR ex-headteacher Martin Bell business success is all in the mind – he's become a "thinking skills consultant".
The former head of Burraton Primary School, in Saltash, is leaving the profession after 15 years as a headteacher, to go it alone with a consultancy working with talented youngsters.
"I will be developing independent learners and thinkers," he said. "Engaging children with strategies to think for themselves."
Mr Bell, from Peverell, has set up a venture called HMS Learning and is looking to work with 400 British schools and internationally too.

"There are 10,000 schools in Malaysia we are looking to develop this approach with," he said. "I've been out there for four weeks during the past six months."
He said the business is about giving children "a more effective way of organising their thinking". It uses techniques such as "thinking maps", and those based on lateral thinking guru Edward de Bono's work. I also work with headteachers and management teams in how to be more effective with their management thinking," Mr Bell said.
"Now I'm launching the idea of coming into schools and working with teachers and their pupils."
He said the learning techniques are appropriate for all ages and abilities and plans to start working with schools from this month.
