THE great, the good and the gorgeous joined The Herald at our exclusive Face of Plymouth semi-final party last night.

And after a nail-biting wait, 20 stunning entrants have been chosen by the judges to take part in the final in July.

The good looking guys and beautiful girls (pictured left) were selected from 40 semi-finalists after winning over the judges at a glamorous cocktail party at the Treasury Bar, Catherine Street.

Dressed to impress, the semi-finalists were given the VIP treatment throughout the evening as The Herald editor Bill Martin and fellow judges picture editor Pete Holdgate, Glenbeigh model agency's Jean Rogers, Drake Circus shopping centre manager Mike Jones and Josephine John, programme area manager for hair, beauty and complementary studies at City College Plymouth, made the difficult decision over who they would be sending through to the final.

The Herald's editor Bill Martin said: "It was a fantastic turnout and it's been great to meet all of the entrants.

"Face of Plymouth is about fun, fashion, looking good and feeling great, and it's about being proud to represent Plymouth and The Herald.

"I've met some fantastic people during the evening and I'm really looking forward to the final. This is the strongest field of candidates we've ever had."

The lucky 20 have now got an exciting few weeks ahead of them, with fashion shoots, makeovers and rehearsals for the Face of Plymouth grand final on July 17.

One would-be model who can't wait to hit the catwalk is Joanne Obee.

.

The 21-year-old from Mutley made it through to the semi-final last year and hoped to go one step further.

She said last night: "I just want to be part of something that represents Plymouth and something that people know about in the city.

"If I get through I'm really looking forward to performing and being myself and showing that I can push myself."

Former Face of Plymouth Charlotte Holmes was there to cheer on the would-be catwalk stars. She has taken part in a number of fashion shoots since winning two years ago.

Charlotte said: "I was crowned Miss Cornwall recently and I've got Miss England in four weeks time.

"The opportunities Face of Plymouth brings are great."

“Please correct me if I'm wrong but how is it that a panel has 'selected' 20 people to progress when we have been encouraged to vote? What is the point of us voting if this is the case?

Also why is entry to this event charged at £10. Shouldn't loyal subscribers of the Evening Herald be given free access?”
