TRIBUTES have been paid to a paraglider who died after plunging into a cornfield at Staddon Heights.

Christopher Snawdon was killed on the weekend after falling 150ft.

His devastated family said the 43-year-old would be greatly missed.

Christopher was brought up in Yealmpton and attended Ivybridge Community College before leaving the South Hams to complete a degree at York University.

Describing Christopher as a lover of the great outdoors, his family said the locally-raised man had enjoyed paragliding for several years and completed training in the sport three years ago.

He also enjoyed cycling, walking and windsurfing.

"The family are devastated at the loss of Christopher," said a family spokesman.

"He will be greatly missed.

"We would also like to thank the emergency services and the air ambulance for their help."

The incident happened at about 5.40pm on Saturday and was witnessed by a sailor who alerted the emergency services.

Police, coastguard teams and land and air ambulances raced to the scene near the old firing range between Ramscliff Point and Wyatts Way.

Police are continuing their investigations into the incident, which is not thought to be suspicious, and are being assisted by the Air Accident Investigation Board.
