PLYMOUTH MARJON soared to third in the men's regional Davis Wood Hockey League ahead of next Saturday's top of the table Premiership clash against fourth placed Robinsons at UCP Marjon.

The Reds built on their 2-0 away win at last season's runners-up University of Exeter A to score a big 5-1 home win over Cardiff University at UCP Marjon thanks to goals from skipper Simon Fenwick (2) Matt Bell (2) and George Bissett.

Keeper Ben Blundy also made a penalty stroke save, just after half time, to keep the score at 1-0 and inspire the home side ahead of their goal spree, in which Bissett claimed his first Premiership goal.

Unbeaten PGSOB and Plymouth Marjon A are second and third in Conference South after three rounds.

PGs kept up their fine early season form with a 2-0 win at Yeovil & Sherborne thanks to goals by Lloyd Milburn and Colin Wood.

Marjon A mirrored their first team with a 5-1 win, teenage ace John Whitfield (2), Will Johnson, Ethan Davies and Josh Sale-Burrows on target for the Reds at University of Exeter.

Plymouth University won 2-0 at Bodmin to move up to fifth while OPMs made it three wins in a row to stay top of Southern 1.

Man of the match Stuart Bennett hit a hat-trick as OPMs saw off visiting East Devon 4-0 at Lipson, where Lewis Gunn-Colling was also on target for the pace setters. Keeper Steve Payne ensured the team's first clean sheet in more than a season.

PGSOB A moved up to third following a 3-2 win over Plymouth Marjon B. Early goals from Will Hickey, Gareth Harrison-Poole and Ben Vince put the home side 3-0 ahead after 20 minutes.

In the women's South Division, Mannamead have replaced cross-city rivals Plym Valley at the summit following a 1-0 cross-Tamar derby win over in form Caradon.

Home forward Charlotte Bates got the only goal of the game after 10 minutes in yet another close encounter between the long-time divisional rivals.

Plymouth Marjon Ladies 2 beat Truro 3-2 with open play goals from player of the match Lucy Bushby, Elle Compton and Donna McCormick.

Promoted Plym Valley's winning start was ended by Falmouth, who won 3-2 at Lipson despite two more goals from the home side's ace Kat Pitcher. All the goals came in the first half and Valley piled on the pressure with a second-half equaliser.

In Premier One, Plymouth Marjon will be looking forward to Saturday's home game against Exe 2 at UCP Marjon following a third away defeat, 3-1 at fourth placed Cheltenham.

Mel Leach pounced on a rebound to make it 2-1 after Carmen Ansley's short corner strike for Plymouth smashed off a post. Holly Rippon was Plymouth's player of the match.

Heather Dixon's team have now visited three of the top four sides in the opening month of the season.
