Dozens of groups have already made their case for some of the cash.

Laura Hewitt, from the Devon Community Foundation, said: "We know there are so many groups doing absolutely amazing things and making a real difference in their local community, and this a real chance for them to get the funding they deserve.

"But they need to get their skates on and get their applications in so they don't miss out on this great opportunity.

"Red Nose Day Community Cash is a fantastic scheme for grassroots projects in Plymouth – and we know there are lots of them out there who this money could really help."

If you are a small group benefiting the community then get your name in the ring for a grant of up to £1,000. Log on to www.thisisplymouth.co.uk/rednose and apply.
