KENI FISILAU and Liam Gibson could achieve the rather impressive feat of starting every one of Plymouth Albion's regular league games this season.

The backs pair have lined up in all 21 of Albion's inaugural Championship fixtures so far.

And they will complete the full programme if they take to the field against Doncaster at 3pm on Saturday in the club's make-or-break final match at Castle Park.

For both players it has been a turnaround in fortunes as the pair have been hampered by injuries over the last couple of seasons.

Long-serving centre Fisilau has certainly enjoyed a renaissance season in 2009/10.

The Tongan international, who is coming to the end of his ninth campaign at Albion having joined the club in 2001, has had two major shoulder injuries, which required operations, in the last three years.

But he has come back stronger than ever this term, to not only win his place back but to keep it ahead of tough competition.

And as well as starting every league game, he has also scored four tries, including important ones against Birmingham-Solihull and Exeter Chiefs.

"I have been pleased this season," said Fisilau.

"I have felt a lot better this season than in the last couple of years, where I'd been playing with injuries all the time.

"I have started every game but there is still one to go and I don't know if I will be picked to play yet.

"But I am really keen to play.

"And if I do play I will put everything I have got into it.

"But whether I play or not I will be up there supporting the boys 100 per cent."

Eighth-placed Albion have to beat Doncaster to guarantee a place in the promotion play-offs.

If they lose they would need Bristol to defeat Moseley and Bedford to beat Rotherham to avoid a relegation fight.

Fisilau has played in many big games for Albion since arriving at the club when they were in National League Division Two. He featured in the club's only Twickenham cup final and their promotion showdowns with Exeter and Bristol in 2004/05.

But he admits Saturday's match is up there with those games.

"This is one of the biggest games since I've been here," said Fisilau.

"We all understand we need to win this game."

Albion have never won at Doncaster, although they have returned with a losing bonus point on their last four league trips.

"Doncaster are tough at home," said Fisilau. "It is a very tough place to go, but so was Bedford and London Welsh, yet we managed to get wins there this season.

"It is going to be a hard day, but we just have to look forward to it and enjoy it."

Fisilau dislocated his shoulder at Castle Park last season when Albion played Doncaster in the cup last January.

The injury brought his season to an end.

But the Tongan will put that out of his mind if he gets the chance to play and try and help the club he loves into the promotion play-offs.

Fisilau admits part of the reason he has so enjoyed this season is because there are so many youngsters in Albion's squad.

He says the younger players push him on.

"You have got to keep fighting for your place with the younger players," said the 33-year-old, father of four, who has come under pressure from the likes of Ben Mercer, Steve Johns and Matt Hopper this season.

Fisilau is also helping to develop possible Albion players of the future by coaching the University of Plymouth team.

The Tongan shares coaching duties of the student side, which is linked to Albion, with Danny Thomas.

The university have already reached the Western Conference BUSA Cup final and could also claim promotion from Western Conference 2A.

Fisilau is enjoying coaching and admits it is something he would like to do more of in the future.

"It has helped me be more confident with talking," admitted the shy Tongan.

"It is really good and I would like to do. I do love rugby and rugby people."

“What is even more impressive is that there asre only 4 players in the league that have achieved this.
The other two are Adrian Jarvis of Bristol and Tim Streather of Nottingham. These two have been replaced 11 and 3 times respectivly! Liam has yet to have been replaced where as Keni has been replaced once 12 mins before the end of the Bedford match in December.”
