Food for thought
THE proposals set out by The Civic Society for Plymouth City Airport make interesting reading.
It suggests a formula through which the deadlock over the site could be broken. While it is hard to imagine that some of the sacrifices suggested would be offered up willingly there is considerable merit in the principle underpinning the plan – that the answer lies in compromise by all parties.
The Herald does not share The Civic Society's view that the council's appeal for government assistance to safeguard the site was futile -indeed we helped answer the council's plea for readers to write to the Prime Minister. Neither do we share the view that there is no real future for aviation in this city.
However, we are keen that all constructive contributions to this debate are aired and we welcome The Civic Society's thought provoking input.

“Until a major investor, who is capable of absorbing the loss on a small regional airport, comes along then the idea of Plymouth being a Check-in and terminus for Exeter airport seems a VIABLE option. At least it's the most realistic option I've seen to date.”
