GOOD news for shoppers who drive: Plymouth City Council has announced free parking in a city centre car park for late-night Christmas shopping.

Shoppers will be able to park free of charge at Western Approach car park after 4pm on the next three Thursdays in the run-up to Christmas.

Cabinet member for Transport, Cllr Mark Coker said: "The first Christmas late-night shopping Thursday was a bit of a wash-out because of the gales and floods, and of course we had to postpone the popular Christmas lights switch-on.

"We've decided to introduce free parking for the Thursday late night shopping in the city centre from now until Christmas to help retailers try to make up for any impact the awful weather has had on them."

“last Thursdays late night shopping we walked down to the west end at around 7 pm and every shop (the few that are left) including the market was shut - so why are the council desperate to force shoppers away from the shops which are popular and OPEN into an area which shuts down after 5.30 !!!??"”

    “Why just Thursday's.?
Car parking should be free after 4 pm anyway.
Still dictating though aren't they, got to be after 4,and ,on a Thursday.
No thanks ! I'd rather go to other stores around the city, where car parking is free, than be dictated to.”
