Free seeds for children at Plymouth restaurant
The Unicorn Harvester in Plymouth is calling for green fingered children as it launches a salad challenge.
The salad and grill on Plymouth Road will be giving away 500 packets of lettuce seeds to children who visit the restaurant from Monday, 2nd April. The Harvester is challenging the children to grow their own lettuce, in an attempt to raise awareness about healthy eating.
Children then have the opportunity to turn the seeds into a free family lunch, with the tastiest looking lettuce winning a meal at their local Harvester restaurant.
Natasha Dingwall, manager of the Unicorn Harvester, said: “Harvester is famous for its salad bar and in the last few years we have developed this further as we look to promote healthy eating to our young guests.

“Our young guest menu helps children on their way to 5-a-day, automatically providing children with the government’s recommended daily amounts. We believe that by launching our Salad Challenge and encouraging children to plant part of their five-a-day, we can get an important message across in a fun and engaging way.
“Each packet of seeds provides around 100 opportunities to grow the perfect lettuce along with top tips on how to plant them. It takes four to six weeks to grow a lettuce, so by July we’re expecting to see plenty of fantastic pictures coming through.”
Children who take part have until Sunday, 1st July to upload images of their lettuce at www.harvester.co.uk/youngguests.
The Harvester Young Guest menu offers children a specially designed section with a three-course menu to choose from, which ensures they receive their full five portions in one sitting.
In addition to the 5-A-Day section, the Harvester children’s menu has a variety of dishes for children to choose and works in the same way as the adult menu, choose a main course, a side, an additional veg and then as much freshly prepared salad as they want.
