AFTER Freedom Fields Festival was postponed due to high winds a couple of weeks ago, the event went ahead last weekend and was hailed a great success.

Saturday's early evening downpours prompted punters to dive into marquees for cover. And while the rain depleted numbers slightly, those who stayed enjoyed some great music in a more intimate and friendly atmosphere under canvass, and were rewarded with a particularly rousing set from headliners Hillhead.

Sunday's weather proved a real bonus. The sunshine helped boost visitor numbers – organisers were able to raise the flaps on the main marquee during a fabulously funky set by Freshly Squeezed – and it felt like summer had arrived at last.

A big thank-you must go to all the bands who gave their services for free and to the volunteers and organisers for doing a sterling job and refusing to give up on the event after the first attempt.

“They should try advertising it better, I had no idea at all this was happening, would have loved to have gone..”
