Almost a month after he disappeared, dozens of friends and family members came together at the Minister Church of St Andrew yesterday afternoon to remember his life.

A wreath was laid outside the church spelling the name 'Jordie' and crowds stopped in Royal Parade to watch as Jordan's coffin was carried into the church to the sound of Wonderwall by Oasis.

The service began with an opening prayer before Savanah Rich, Jordan's former girlfriend, sang a rendition of DJ Sammy's Heaven.

The congregation sang Amazing Grace, and Jordan's fellow students from Stoke Damerel School sang a song of tribute and gave poem readings and other tributes.

Bible readings included John Chapter 14: verses 1 to 6, followed by The Lord's Prayer.

Jordan's family followed his coffin out of the church as Swedish House Mafia's Don't You Worry Child was played.

David Smith, whose son Trafford, 16, was in Jordan's class at school, told The Herald the whole community had been affected by his death.

"It's absolutely devastating," he said.

"I dread to think what these kids are going through.

"The amazing thing is that there were so many people out every day searching for him, morning or evening.

"Hopefully now they can put him to rest and say goodbye.

"My son had been in bits, crying his eyes out ever since it happened."

Jordan, 16, jumped from a ferry travelling from Devonport to Torpoint on New Year's Eve and, after a huge search operation, the body was recovered on January 16.

Last month an inquest was opened and adjourned by Coroner Andrew Cox who recorded drowning as the provisional cause of death following a post-mortem examination.

The inquest heard that after jumping from the ferry, Jordan was briefly seen to re-surface about 70 metres from the Torpoint side of the river before disappearing from view.

Police believe the former Stoke Damerel College student may have jumped from the ferry following a £100 bet.

Emergency services carried out extensive searches for Jordan in the weeks after he went missing, with police, MoD, Coastguard, Dartmoor Search and Rescue, helicopters and divers scouring the river, the shoreline, Plymouth Sound and a number of bays and inlets around the coast.

Friends of Jordan also carried out their own searches.

His body was eventually discovered on the Torpoint side of the ferry crossing by a member of the public.

An online donation page, which was set up to help Jordan's family, has so far raised £1,729.

“Why has this suicide been publicised like this with a video as well as lots of photos?
Complete invasion of privacy and are glamorising idiot behaviour.”

“A modern young one @ sidewinder. The lad was 16 not 76. Lots of teenagers going to this funeral. Many who don't have a black suit or any other shoes other than trainers or even the funds to afford smart shoes, shoes they probably won't wear again. They were there to show their friend respect and say goodbye not to be picked apart by the fashion police!”

“@sidewinder ..... they judge you on how many people attend your funeral .Not what they wear . Looking ahead I dont care what people wear at mine , just nice of them to be there . Apart from the fact that many different cultures say goodbye to a loved one without the need to even wear a black suit .
    R.I.P”

“Pictures were on the website within the hour like it was a scoop or something, it was a bloody funeral for gods sake, the next day would have been soon enough for pictures. Again as already asked, why a video, it's not like he was famous or anything, too much intrusion me thinks.”
