Fundraiser, 16, jumps from aeroplane
A YOUNG city fundraiser is on cloud nine after leaping 15,000ft out of an aeroplane for charity.
Oli Milroy, aged 16, took part in the skydive in aid of Plymouth organisation the Drake Foundation.
And the Plymstock School sixth-form pupil managed to raise £500 with more money still coming in.
"The skydive was incredible – absolutely amazing," said Oli.
"It was really quite relaxing going up because it was such a clear day but when the air horn goes off at 14,000 feet and you go over to the edge of the plane that is where it hit me that I was going to jump out of a plane."
Oli was cheered on with his charity skydive by friends and family, as well as Wil Sprenkel, director of post-16 education at the school and Steve Davis, chief executive of the Drake Foundation.
Oli's fundraising efforts are being combined with the school's own charity donation to the Drake Foundation, totalling £1,300.
"This will be match funded to £2,600 and that is a lot of money that could help a whole project in Plymouth," said Oli.
"I am really proud of all the work that people have put in to this."
The school's contribution was raised during a week of charity events, which included a sponsored leg wax, doughnut eating contest and computer game tournament.
"We are hopefully going to start an acorn grant with the Drake Foundation so we have a say of where the money we raise goes," said Mr Sprenkel.
"This means that the students can have a say on what goes on in their community."
The Drake Foundation is a community charity which supports local organisations with grants. Education, sport, environment and care groups have all received cash boosts from it, and by working alongside the Devon Community Foundation to offer the Plymouth Grassroots Challenge, all money donated is matched pound for pound.
