FURNITURE donated by charitable Plymothians is on its way to victims of flooding in the North West and Scotland.

Grandmother Sue Duncan visited the city as part of her crusade to help people made homeless by last month's severe weather.

Cumbria was particularly badly hit by floods, with bridges brought down, houses destroyed and dozens of roads shut.

But Sue has launched the charitable organisation Flood Aid UK, which sees her drive around the country in her van picking up unwanted furniture and delivering it to those in need.

She has now enlisted the help of Keyham's fundraising fanatic Stuart Morrissey – better known as Madrider1961 – who has generated tens of thousands of pounds for worthy causes through gruelling motorcycle challenges.

Sue, who is in her seventies, has spent thousands of pounds of her own money delivering furniture, clothing and food.

She took more than 300 tonnes of furniture to people in the worst-hit areas of Tewkesbury, Hull and York in 2007.

Despite a heart attack and chemical poisoning she is determined to help the people of Cumbria put their lives back together – and is now on the lookout for second-hand caravans.

Anyone who can help with financial donations, clothing, food, or who has unwanted fire-safe furniture, is asked to arrange donations through Stuart on 01752 565021.
