MEMBERS of a union have voted to reject proposals to change the conditions of employment for NHS workers in Plymouth – including controversial regional pay.

The proposals include the so-called 'South West Pay Cartel', which is made up of 19 NHS trusts – including Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust which runs Derriford.

The cartel has proposed to introduce local and regional pay but has faced strong opposition as it looks to break away from nationally-agreed pay and conditions.

A petition has already been handed to Derriford bosses by city-based health workers.

GMB union members will also lobby NHS Staff Council members at a trade union meeting in London next week to ask that all NHS unions reject the proposals, the union has announced.

Martin Jackson, chair of GMB's NHS advisory committee said last night: "GMB members are asking all NHS workers to reject and stand united on the real attacks on the NHS.

"GMB has decided to lobby the meeting on February 26 so that we can voice our concerns."
