Gates to be erected at lane through school
THICK metal gates are to be put up to keep people off a popular footpath, according to plans revealed by a Plympton school.
Ridgeway School wants to block Geasons Lane with gates and fencing, following years of controversy over the route.

Headteacher John Didymus has submitted a planning application to Plymouth City Council for the 2.4-metre structure adjacent to a car park.
The battle over Geasons Lane, which runs through the school grounds, has wages for more than 30 years.

Residents and campaign groups were angry at the school's plans to close it – and the decision was eventually made following a public enquiry.
Mr Didymus said: "It was always our intention to secure the closure of the public highway as the next step, following the extinguishment of the public right of way.
"We now need to go through a formal process to close a small section the highway that extends into the school at the top of Geasons Lane.
"This will enable us to gate the school grounds at our boundary and not only at the point in the middle of the site, where the footpath ends."
Andrew Briggs, owner of Hair by Andrew on Plympton's Ridgeway, added: "If the path has closed then there's no right of way anyway.
"I respect the school's views but the local people didn't see why it should close."

“I think that the hole point us that if there is a fire it will be safer now. I assume the school will now remove the fences either side of the path so the kids can evacuate without having to squeeze through the fencing. The gate isn't going to be on the fire escape route is it.”
