GOALS have been in short supply for Plymouth Argyle lately and their attacking options are set to be reduced before the New Year.

The loan spells of Burnley's Alex MacDonald and Guy Madjo, from Aldershot Town, will end next month and cannot be extended.

Both players will have spent three months with the Pilgrims, which is the maximum amount of time allowed in the circumstances.

MacDonald's loan spell finishes after Argyle's next game, the Johnstone's Paint Trophy last 16 tie against Oxford United at Home Park on Tuesday, December 4.

The Pilgrims will then have League Two games at home to York City on December 8 and away to Exeter City seven days later.

Madjo's loan from Aldershot ends after the Devon derby at St James' Park.

There will then be a period of three more matches for Argyle before the January transfer window opens and new recruits can be brought in.

Those games are away to Accrington Stanley on December 22, and home fixtures against Torquay United on Boxing Day and Wycombe Wanderers on December 29.

They will then travel to Bristol Rovers for a 1pm kick-off on New Year's Day.

So the Pilgrims will be hoping to avoid injuries and suspensions to their remaining attacking players before then.

Argyle have not scored in any of their last three games, since the 2-2 draw with table-topping Gillingham at Home Park on November 10.

Their leading marksman this season is Paris Cowan-Hall, with four goals in all competitions.

He has played as a striker for the Pilgrims since signing from Woking in the summer, but more often than not has been used in wide attacking roles.

Argyle's other forward options are Nick Chadwick, Warren Feeney, Rhys Griffiths and Matt Lecointe.

Feeney and Griffiths have both netted three times this season and Chadwick has scored once.

Lecointe has yet to open his account but has not featured for the Pilgrims since the 1-1 draw at home to Bristol Rovers on September 18.

Argyle manager Carl Fletcher added one new face to his squad before the deadline for 'emergency loan' signings last Thursday.

Midfielder Mark Molesley arrived from League One outfit Bournemouth and will be with the Pilgrims up to and including December 22.

The 31-year-old made his debut in the 1-0 home defeat by Chesterfield on Saturday.

MacDonald has made 14 starts and two substitute appearances for Argyle since signing for them at the start of September and has scored only once.

Madjo has netted three times from nine starts and five substitute appearances, with two of his goals coming from the penalty spot in the 3-1 home win against Rochdale on October 20.

ARGYLE Legends beat Weston Mill Vets 3-0 with goals from Paul Smith, Joe Davey and Ryan Cross.

The game was arranged by former Pilgrims' striker Derek Rickard in memory of his father, Brian, who died earlier this year.

Legends' captain Chris Harrison was presented with the Brian Rickard Memorial Trophy after their win.

The trophy will be contested by the two teams next year.

“So, I thought we had our backroom bulging with football knowledge and experience. How can this situation have been allowed to happen? Do all of these 'past' footballing prima-donnas actually talk to each other, or are they happy to sit back and collect their retirement pensions?”

“Sorry a couple of grammatical mistakes corrected - disregard previous post.

Maybe McDonald and Madjo are the 2 strkers CF needs to sign permanently (if their parent clubs will release them)?

Maybe Feeney and Chadwick are better off being released? The jury is out on the fireman.

So sorry to harp on about it but we have a serious problem in the striker department. We have had for ages and it looks like it will get worse before better.

Loan players are great a) if the loan period is reasonable (accept the FL guidelines) and b) they actually play the player whilst on loan - he comes to get a regular game after all.

So where to now - a manager with no real ideas who his best pair of strikers are (even this far into the season), loanees returning and no replacements. Well done Mr Fletcher your vision is rivetting.

I said on a previous post we need 6 points from the next 2 games - well we lost 3 against Chesterfield so 3 more up for grabs against York. We also need 9 from the 3 games without any decent recognised strikers or else we really will be in the soft stuff. Somehow I don't think we will get any but am willing to be proven wrong!

    The clock still ticks!!

I think Chadwick we may get away with but not so sure about Feeney”

“Poor decision-making in the summer and earlier this season when releasing and signing players.

Hey ho - onwards and upwards.”
