Golden week of family fun
GOLD star summer entertainment is on the cards for Plymouth next week with a whole host of fantastic events taking place.
The Plymouth Summer Festival is in full swing and capturing the spirit of the entire seasonal event is the 'Golden Week', running from August 11-17.
With the British Fireworks Championships on the Hoe, racing action on the water with the Rolex Fastnet Race, blockbuster musical Chicago at the Theatre Royal and great food at Plymouth Flavour Fest, next week will be jam-packed with top class entertainment.
The Hoe is set to be ablaze with colour during the annual firework spectacular, which will arrive in the city with a bang on Tuesday.
Thousands are expected to flock to the waterfront to see some of the best fireworks the UK has to offer as teams battle it out over two nights.
And Drake Circus shopping centre will be offering half price parking from 5pm and will stay open until midnight.
The final of the Rolex Fastnet Race is also due to be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, with world-class competitors all battling to cross the line first.
If musicals are more your thing then popular stage show Chicago should fit the bill when it takes to the stage for a two-week stint, beginning on Monday.
And ending the week in mouthwatering fashion is the hugely popular Flavour Fest.
Now in its sixth year the gastronomic event, which is being held from Friday to Sunday, attracts high quality local and regional traders, selling delicious food and drink.
Alvin Hargreaves, general manager of the Theatre Royal and Plymouth Pavilions said: "We should all be proud that our city has such a great summer festival. Plymouth certainly does have one of the best summer event programmes in the UK. I hope everyone visiting Plymouth over the next week throughout the Festival has a great time."

“A funny thing happened to me on the way to the Athenaeum Theatre. I had arisen at dawn in a rush to begin my day with a shower. Along my journey I chanced upon a songbird, who, being quite a comedian, reveiled a cracking melody in reply to a paragraph that was drawn firstly last.
Gather round Ladies and Gentleman, I have in my mind a very clever plan
Why not hold a party, invite everyone as guests and make them play along, while we hide our hand
Then they may not notice, our web of deceit to celebration given free
As everyone invited, is sponsored self-funding all to see
The Fool may not have been attentive dancing in melody wisdomed
Yet no worries if you holidaying abroad sunny next week anyones
While you're burning your skin, toward cream-kissed bath of lava'ed last
We'll be laughing together in love, on our loved Plymouth Hoe, brethren pathed”

“Most of the shops in Drake Circus are also open until 8pm and they are offering half price parking after 5pm.”
