CITY indie covers band The Vibes are expected to pull a massive crowd at The Mutley Crown tonight.

The five-piece indie band has been making waves in Plymouth this year and its huge following on the music scene is down to the awesome quality of the group's cover songs.

The lads themselves say tonight's gig should be a stormer – a showcase for a top covers scene which is getting better all the time in Plymouth.

The Vibes are a Plymouth-based band who have grown up listening to and playing indie rock music.

The lads play indie anthems by bands such as Oasis, Kasabian, Stereophonics, Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys, The Enemy and The Killers – which they say never fail to get people into the set. They have already supported the likes of The Utah Saints and Artful Dodger.

The band reckon their philosophy is simple – "no melancholy tunes and no golden oldies – if it's not a high energy, high tempo indie anthem we're not playing it!".

Guitarist Phil Brown said: "We just to stick to what we know. Most people who come to see us want to sing along at the top of their voices to their favourite tunes – we just give them what they want!"

The band consists of Andy Brown on lead vocals, Phil Brown on rhythm guitar and backing vocals, Phil Burgoyne on lead guitar, Martin Cocks on bass and Paul Channing on the drums.

Phil Brown said: "We've been playing together for some time now and have been gigging for more than two years.

"We're just having a great time. We've played nearly 200 gigs in the top music venues in the city and beyond.

"We've built a solid fan base and good reputation with the best venues in the city."

Phil Brown said his band loves playing at the Mutley Crown.

"We played one of our first gigs there which happened to coincide with them first having live bands. We've played regularly at the Mutley Crown ever since. From the outset the owners and staff have been great supporters of the band so it's great to see that the venue is really popular with live music fans and most of the top bands in the city.

"People seem to really enjoy our gigs and we're looking forward to tonight – it's always great to see the place get packed out.

"The atmosphere in the Mutley Crown has been awesome at times and hopefully tonight will be the best one yet!"
