CITY youngsters learnt about the diversity of apples during a celebration event for half-term.

Families came together at Devonport Guildhall for a day of apple pressing, tasting, apple colouring, bunting making, collage assembling, cookery demonstrations and wooden apple painting.

Children also enjoyed eating apple dampers cooked in a fire pit.

Wendy Hart, neighbourhood investment coordinator, said residents at King William Heights had grown fruit and plants on their street which were used on the day.

She said: "This event celebrates their achievements and connects them up to other people and organisations in the area."

The event was organised by a wide range of organisations and was funded by NHS Plymouth, Sovereign Housing and Stepping Stones for Nature.
