Help for axed carpet staff
REDUNDANT staff at a South Hams carpet company are being offered support to find a new job.
Workers at Buckfastleigh who are losing their jobs after Axminster Carpets went into administration are being offered support by a range of agencies, including South Hams District Council, at a special event this morning.
The council is joining a group of organisations offering a redundancy clinic at the Buckfast Spinning Company from 9am-11.30am.
Help and information will also be available from Job Centre Plus, Business Information Point, Westward Path Finder and the local Careers Service.

Those set to lose their jobs, and who live in the South Hams but cannot attend today's redundancy clinic, can call the council's benefits team on 01803 861234 or email benefits@southhams.gov.uk for help.
A SPARKING electricity box caused panic in a house in Milehouse.
Two fire engines from Camels Head and one from Greenbank rushed to the house in Scott Road shortly before 3pm yesterday.
The fire involved electrical fixings in an electricity cupboard which were sparking.
The small fire was already out when the firefighters arrived on the scene.
Crews carried out a full inspection to ensure the property and people were safe.
A representative from Western Power Distribution was requested to attend and duty of care was left with the occupier, a spokeswoman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said.
THE ever-popular car boot sales held at Peacock Meadow, in Plympton, are set to make a return.
The weekly events, held every Sunday and running until the end of the year, will recommence on Sunday, March 10.
Stalls will be open to bargain hunters from 9am until 12.30pm.
JOHN Boon, of the Ford Park Cemetery Trust, is to be the speaker at the next general meeting of the Plymouth U3A.
Taking place on Monday, March 11, at Salvation Army Congress Hall in Armada Way, new members are welcome to attend.
Meetings start at 11.00am, with tea and coffee served from 10.30am.
